Virtual Comic Workshop

with local comic book creator Josh Shockley

The class will take place Feb. 27, March 20, and April 10 from 2 pm to 3:30pm

virtually via Zoom. Ages 8 through adult.

$75 registration includes materials.

Materials must be picked up between 3 pm and 7 pm on Thurs, Feb 25th at the Corbin Studio & Gallery at 4 E Main Street in Crisfield.  Masks are required when picking up materials.

If you would prefer to order your materials a list will be provided.  Materials will not be shipped.

Scholarships are available by selecting the option in registration (no further financial information is required, simply select this option if you would like to request a scholarship for your child).

Scholarships are funded by Giving Tuesday gifts from generous individuals through the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.

Comics 101 with Josh Shockley

Course Description

The course will span 3 sessions and will be held on the following Saturdays: February 27th, March 20th and April 10th.

Each session will be 90 minutes and presented virtually through teleconference by instructor Josh Shockley . Shockley is a local independent comic book writer, artist and inker and is the co- Founder of PLB Comics, a locally based independent comic book publisher.

During the course, the students will study the aspects of the comic book production process and will create their own short 3-4 page black and white story. The students will write, draw, ink and hand letter the stories themselves.  There will be class exercises during each session as well as assigned homework in between sessions. The instructor will provide email feedback on the homework between sessions. Students will also learn an overview of comic book history, panel design, and aspects of self-publishing in the Independent comic book industry.

Recommended ages 8 and older.
